Calvin Taylor Completes New Piano Publication, Spirituals for Worship Dr. Taylor's foreword: "It
was my great fortune to grow up in a large church in Los Angeles where
music played a prominent role. Not only were traditional hymns and
anthems sung, but a special place was given to spirituals. Concerts of
this rare music were presented by choirs and renowned soloists. Later
in college, I heard moving renditions of spirituals by the outstanding
Oberlin College Choir, which even took this music on tour to Russia.
During these early years, I had begun a large collection of printed
versions of this unique heritage of song.
"After so much exposure to spirituals, and with a growing interest in arranging, it was only natural for me to prepare several concert-level volumes for organ and keyboard. When contacted by Alfred Publishing for a new book of spirituals, I was pleased at yet another opportunity to compile a collection of essential selections appropriate for both private and corporate worship. Spirituals for Worship is presented with the hope that these timeless melodies, engaging harmonies, and sparkling syncopations will continue to inspire and delight audiences around the world." Spirituals for Worship is available for ordering from the Place an Order page on this website.
